Lebel meets Lacombe whilst signing copies of his latest book. The latter offers him a bottle of highly acclaimed wine and asks him to value his cellar. The following day Lacombe and his wife are found: murdered. Their collection of forty Sauternes vintages has disappeared.

In Colmar, a journalist has been found dead in suspicious circumstances whilst investigating a controversial businessman, Loewen. Police Lieutenant Bory rapidly concludes that it is a case of murder and discovers that the last person contacted by the victim was Lebel. She immediately gets in touch.

Nancy asks France to carry out an evaluation; Lebel accompanies her. A man has been murdered on the land Nancy had her eye on. By strange coincidence: she was in a relationship with the victim's son-in-law. Shortly afterwards, she becomes the second victim, and the investigation becomes even more complicated.

Widow Marcarol, winegrower in Bandol, wants to donate her estate to the Saint Sauveur monastery. A decision contested by an investor, who calls on Lebel for his services. He rapidly discovers that the monks have no intention of accepting the gift, given the scandals surrounding the estate.

When her husband René disappears, oenologist Macha Grimaud contacts her friend France. Whilst his work at a rehab centre occupied much of René's time, Lebel quickly discovers he was having an affair and being blackmailed about it. At the same time, an investigation has been opened at René's clinic.

An assault has left Lebel in a coma. He comes round two days later, but with partial amnesia. Against doctors' orders, he insists on leaving hospital, determined to try to find his precious notebook, the one where he'd noted all his comments over the ten years spent tasting exceptional wine.

Lebel is in Angoulême for the inauguration of a wine cellar recently opened by an acquaintance, Arthur Salacrou. During the evening, Arthur manages to involve Lebel, despite himself, in launching his new vodka. But the project comes to dramatic end when Arthur is hit by a harpoon from a speargun.

Return to Nantes

Duquesne, owner of a vineyard near Nantes, asks Lebel to help him develop a project, but the latter declines. Two years later he contacts Lebel again, but for his skills as an investigator. His daughter Gloria is apparently involved in a tragic event. Duquesne then dies in mysterious circumstances.

The exuberant Peythard decides to invest his life savings in a wine estate, preferably in the Beaujolais. He contacts the Lebels to ask them to value his proposed project. Mathilde visits, but things take a dangerous turn and Lebel needs to intervene before everything degenerates even further.

An acute crisis in the Graves

Lebel accepts an invitation by Gimonprez, a major Bordeaux wine merchant, concerning a new wine estate in China. Shortly afterwards, Gimonprez is poisoned during a wine tasting and dies. Lebel investigates the company and rapidly becomes suspicious of some of those close to the victim. Simple disloyalty, or something worse?
