Having been absent for over twenty years, Rita Melanson returns to Saint-Prospère, her native village. She catches up with old contacts, including Yolande, a childhood friend. Having come to tie up a few loose ends, she finds herself, despite her best intentions, owner of the church, presbytery and surrounding land.
