The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform you of your rights and guarantees as well as the advantages you benefit from in connection with the processing by TV5MONDE of the personal data you provide us with during your experience on the TV5MONDEplus platform.
This privacy policy is subject to change as the TV5MONDEplus platform develops. Any revision will be effective from the day it is published in the privacy policy, the date appearing at the top on the left. Therefore, by continuing your experience on the TV5MONDEplus platform, you accept the latest updated version of the privacy policy. You can read the latest update by regularly referring to the privacy policy. However, if this update substantially affects the processing of your personal data, your consent will be systematically required via a notification email received at the email address you have provided us with, or failing this, through a window displayed as soon as you access the platform.
1. You enjoy a personalised and quality experience thanks to your personal data
We wish to offer you the best user experience on our TV5MONDEplus platform while guaranteeing the protection of your personal data and privacy in accordance with current French and European regulations.
We aim to offer you enriching content that matches your preferences and expectations. Thanks to you providing us with personal information over which you retain control, we will have a better knowledge of your preferences and will be able to recommend personalised content and optimise the quality of our offer.
2. Your personal data are protected
We undertake to collect and process your personal data in strict compliance with current French and European regulations, including:
- Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (“GDPR”);
- The general guidelines of the European Data Protection Board (“EDPB”), which brings together national data protection authorities;
- Law No.78-17 of 6 January 1978 on Data Processing, Data Files and Individual Liberties amended by Law No.2018-493 of 20 June 2018 on the protection of personal data;
- The deliberations of the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (“CNIL”), the French supervisory authority in charge of personal data protection.
3. You consent to the collection and processing of your personal data
During your experience on the TV5MONDEplus platform, you are able to express your consent to or refusal of the collection and processing of your personal data.
We ask for your free and informed consent for any collection and processing of your personal data that requires the data subject’s consent. You are kindly requested to clearly express your consent, for example, when you register on the platform, by filling in your personal data and confirming your registration after being clearly informed of how your personal data will be processed, or when you set your cookies, by clicking on “Accept” or “Accept all” in the cookie consent banner.
You can easily withdraw your consent at any time, in general, by requesting the erasure of your personal data or by going to the “Manage my personal data” page. As regards deleting cookies stored on your device, you can set your options using the cookie banner accessible from the “Cookies Charter” page, by clicking on “Refuse” or “Refuse all”. If you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, you can unsubscribe by accessing your personal page or by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletters.
The processing operations that do not require your consent are those based on the need to comply with our legal obligations (for example, to respond to third parties legally entitled to request the transmission of some of your personal data), to pursue our legitimate interests (for example, to ensure the security of our TV5MONDEplus platform) or to perform a contract to which you are a party.
4. You are informed in complete transparency about the processing of your personal data
We make sure we provide you with understandable and easily accessible information about all the conditions surrounding the processing of your personal data. This information is available through this privacy policy and whenever you communicate your personal data directly to us and when you are asked for your consent to the collection and processing of such data.

What personal data do you collect?
During your experience on the TV5MONDEplus platform, you will be asked to provide us with several types of personal data.
In order to enjoy an enriched user experience and access all the functionalities offered by the TV5MONDEplus platform (for example, add programmes to your favourites to access them directly in the “My content” section, receive personalised programme recommendations via the “Recommended for you” banner, resume playback of a programme where you stopped it at a later time and/or on another device, download programmes onto your mobile to watch them offline), you can create your TV5MONDEplus account by entering your email address, a password, your last name, first name, date of birth and title. Once registered on the platform, you will be able to add personal information such as your town/city and country to your personal page to complete your user profile. At the same time, in order to ensure that your account functions smoothly, essential metadata is retrieved such as the date your account was created, the date you last logged in, your IP address and the date your personal data were last changed.
If you prefer to log in via your social networks using your Google, Facebook or Twitter account, the personal data you choose to disclose publicly on your social network according to the privacy settings you have set will be transmitted to us in accordance with the general terms of use you have agreed to on the social network. For example, we may process your identification data, interests and consumption habits in connection with the programmes and partners of the TV5MONDEplus platform.
If you would like to receive the latest news from the TV5MONDEplus platform and programme recommendations, you can subscribe to the TV5MONDEplus newsletter by providing identification data such as your first name, last name and email address. To ensure that you always receive relevant newsletters, metadata relating to their use may also be collected: the successful arrival of the letter in your mailbox, the actual opening of the letter, the date and time it is read, clicks on the hyperlinks contained in the letter, etc.
To ensure you are fully satisfied when you use the TV5MONDEplus platform: if you have a problem or a suggestion to submit to us, you will be asked to give us your email address via the contact form accessible from the “Help” button so that we can process your request and send you a reply and, optionally, your name so that we can send you a personalised reply.
When you browse through the TV5MONDEplus universe, some of your browsing data is automatically collected, in particular by installing cookies and other tracers on your device, subject to your prior acceptance.
In order for you to benefit from an optimal browsing experience with a display adapted to your device and highlighted personalised content, on a high-performance secure platform, where technical problems are reduced, easily detected and resolved, we may collect information relating to your IP address, the type of device you are using, the date, time, duration and region where you log in, the language you have chosen, the pages you have visited, the programmes you have viewed, etc.
If you accept that the advertising sent to you is tailored to your preferences and needs, and to contribute to effectively promoting the TV5MONDEplus platform, we may collect anonymous data on the performance and your exposure to advertising campaigns broadcast on the platform and on third party sites (ads seen, clicked on, visits generated, etc.).

How are your personal data processed and for what purposes?
The processing of your personal data consists of operations performed using automated processes such as the collection, recording, organisation, structuring, storage, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, restriction, erasure or destruction of your personal data, etc.
The processing of your personal data enables you to create, manage and properly operate your account on the TV5MONDEplus platform, subscribe to the TV5MONDEplus newsletter and benefit from all the functionalities offered by the platform, for example saving your favourite or downloaded programmes, the programmes you have watched so that you are offered similar videos and the place where you paused a programme so that you can easily continue watching it at a later time and/or on another device.
The processing of your personal data enables you to have a personalised experience on the TV5MONDEplus platform, as it gives us a better knowledge of your profile, so that we can recommend programmes according to your preferences and show you advertisements related to your interests.
Your personal data also enables you to optimise, secure and streamline your browsing on the TV5MONDEplus platform by displaying content adapted to your device, identifying and quickly resolving technical problems, saving your selected language, etc.
The processing of your personal data also offers you the option of communicating with us by email, so that you can send us your comments, inform us of a problem you have encountered or exercise your rights and then have your complaints dealt with.
Through the processing of your personal data, you help improve the relevance of the TV5MONDEplus platform by enabling us to analyse audiences and perhaps offer you surveys. You help to promote the platform more effectively by allowing us to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and your exposure to them on third-party sites.
Finally, processing your personal data helps us to monitor compliance with the regulations applicable to the TV5MONDEplus platform, its general terms of use and this privacy policy, by identifying under-age users, detecting fraudulent behaviour likely to jeopardise the security of the platform as well as unlawful activities affecting intellectual property rights, etc.
Who is your personal data intended for?
Your personal data is intended for certain employees of several internal departments at TV5MONDE, for example the Digital Department or the Marketing Department, who may process your personal data only if necessary and in connection with their activities.
Your personal data is also shared with our sub-contractors which provide us with, amongst other things, technical services, customer services and marketing, analytical and advertising solutions such as our advertising sales house France Télévisions Publicité, etc. Your personal data may also be collected directly by our subcontractors on our behalf and with our permission. They have access to your personal data only when this is necessary for them to fulfil their mission with TV5MONDE (for example, the proper implementation of the functionalities of the TV5MONDEplus platform) and are not authorised to share them or process them for other purposes.
Your personal data may, in limited cases regulated by law, be passed on to third parties such as judicial or administrative authorities and your internet service provider.
How long is your personal data kept?
Your personal data is kept for the period of time strictly necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, for example, during the length of time your account exists, for the time necessary to implement the associated functionalities, etc.
Your personal data may be archived for a further period of time, for example when closing your account, to meet our legal or regulatory obligations (for example, a law requiring a longer retention period for a certain type of data) or to exercise our rights (for example, to provide evidence in litigation).
Cookies installed on your device are kept for a maximum of 13 months from when they are first installed on your device. The different retention periods are determined for each type of cookie in the Cookies Charter. At the end of their retention period, you will be asked for your consent again.
If you withdraw your consent to the processing of some of your personal data, this data will be deleted and can no longer be retained for the initial period of time.
Finally, if we see that you have not actively used the TV5MONDEplus platform for 18 months, your personal data will be made anonymous and, failing this, will in any case be deleted within a maximum of 3 years from the date of your last contact (when you last logged in to the platform, when you last opened a newsletter).
5. Your personal data are secure
We undertake to keep your personal data confidential and not to disseminate them to third parties without your prior consent. On an exceptional basis, we may forward them to the judicial or administrative authorities entitled to request them in order to comply with our legal or regulatory obligations.
We undertake to implement the appropriate technical and organisational measures to guarantee a level of security appropriate to the risk of loss and theft as well as unlawful or accidental access, use (alteration, destruction, etc.) and unauthorised disclosure of your personal data.
6. You retain ownership and control of your personal data
You have the right to access, rectify and delete your personal data, the right to restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. - Right of access: you have the right to be informed of and have access to all your personal data that we collect and process as well as the methods of processing these data, notably by reading this privacy policy or by contacting us at the following email address: tv5mondeplus@tv5monde.com;
- Right of rectification: you can complete, amend and update any incomplete, inaccurate or obsolete personal data directly on your personal page;
- Right of erasure: You have the right to request the erasure of your personal data processed on the basis of your consent, data collected for our legitimate interest and for which there are no compelling legitimate grounds justifying their processing and data no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected, by accessing the “Exercise my right to be forgotten” option from the “Manage my personal data” page or by deleting your account from your personal space. However, you should be aware that we may keep your personal data that are necessary for complying with our legal and regulatory obligations or for ascertaining, exercising and defending our rights in court;
- Right of restriction: you can restrict the processing of some of your personal data when you dispute their accuracy, when processing is unlawful and you do not wish to have your data deleted or when we no longer need them for processing purposes but they are still necessary for you to ascertain, exercise or defend your rights in court or when you oppose their treatment on the basis of our legitimate interest during verifications to establish whether the legitimate interest we have pursued takes precedence over your own legitimate interest;
- Right to object: you have the right to refuse the processing of your personal data in the event that we do so for prospecting or profiling purposes or for the legitimate interests that we pursue provided that your interests, rights and freedoms prevail over our legitimate grounds;
- Right to data portability: you can ask to receive, in electronic format, the personal data you have provided to us (actively and consciously, for example, when you create an account or use the contact form, as well as the data generated by your activity on the platform) and data processed on the basis of your consent or the performance of a contract to which you are a party; so you can easily reuse such data and transfer them to a third party, by accessing the “Exercise my right to data portability” option from the “Manage my personal data” page.
The right not to be subject to automated decision-making does not apply because TV5MONDE does not make decisions based exclusively on automated processing.
You can also define instructions on the fate of your personal data after your death. In this respect, you can send us instructions on the storage, deletion and disclosure of your personal data by email to tv5mondeplus@tv5monde.com.
In order to protect your privacy and confirm your identity, requests to exercise rights made by email must be accompanied by a copy of an identity document bearing your signature.
Your request will be dealt with within one month of receipt. This period may be extended by 2 months, depending on the complexity of your request or the number of requests we receive.

7. Your children are protected
TV5MONDE is committed to protecting the privacy of its young users. In this respect, we do not process the personal data of minors under 16 years of age for which the user’s consent is required. Minors under the age of 16 are not allowed to create their own account on the TV5MONDEplus platform.
Access to the platform by minors under 16 years of age must be subject to prior authorisation from the holders of parental authority or legal representatives.
TV5MONDE is also sensitive to the type of content to which minors have access. This is why we provide a trusted space on the platform especially for children, which only offers programmes for all audience groups and programmes for young people.
