Jacques Stephen Alexis
Né à Haïti et disparu tragiquement en 1962 à l'âge de 39 ans, Jacques Stephen Alexis est un écrivain majeur de la littérature caribéenne et haïtienne. Son humanisme fervent, sa lutte contre le fascisme et ses prises de position dans le débat social et anticolonial de son époque font de lui une voix incontournable et indémodable. Ses oeuvres sont enseignées dans le monde entier et traduites dans une vingtaine de langues.

Sony Labou Tansi
Sony Labou Tansi, né en 1947 au Congo, était romancier, poète et dramaturge. Son écriture satirique et novatrice relève d'une véritable luxuriance verbale. Elle dénonce la corruption du pouvoir. Décédé en 1995, il est considéré comme l'un des plus grands auteurs africains d'expression

Bernard Dadié
Considéré comme le père des lettres ivoiriennes, Bernard Dadié fut poète, conteur, romancier, dramaturge et homme politique. Ce géant de la littérature africaine laisse une oeuvre puissante, véritable ode à la liberté, une oeuvre écrite « avec les mots amis, mots de tous les jours, mots de tous les hommes, mots intimes, mots fraternels ».

Djibril Tamsir Niane
Né à Conakry, en Guinée, Djibril Tamsir Niane est le grand spécialiste de l'histoire médiévale africaine. Son travail a permis de rendre légitimes les sources orales, celles des griots. Grâce à eux, il aura dévoilé l'histoire de Soundjata, cet empereur du monde mandingue du XIIIe siècle qui fonda l'empire du Mali. Homme de lettres, les ouvrages de Djibril Tamsir Niane restent des références sur le Continent. Son travail, immense, aura contribué à la décolonisation des imaginaires historiques.

In honour of the 19th Francophonie Summit, this special programme was filmed at the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française at Villers-Cotterêts. Augustin Trapenard receives Francophone authors who spread the beauty of the French language around the world and make it their literary territory.
The 2024 final brings together the nine best candidates, from 120,000 secondary and high school students. Before the judges, the finalists have to read a set text, seen for the first time on the eve of the final, judged on four main criteria: expression, rhythm, tone, ability to transmit emotion.
