The Bern Convention signatory countries have reassessed the status of the wolf in Europe. In recent decades, it has been reintroduced in France for protection reasons. But due to a sharp rise in attacks against herds and the loss of its 'strictly protected' status, the rules on killing the species have been relaxed.
