Violette, an eight-year-old orphan, goes to live with her uncle Régis, a cleaner at the Palace of Versailles. Violette hates him: she thinks he stinks. However, in the corridors of the Sun King, the stubborn little girl and the big bear soften up and navigate their grief together.
Violette and Régis spend Christmas with Violette's grandparents, but tensions are running high. With Malcolm's help, she takes photos of Regis at work to show her grandparents that he is happy. The family then meets in Versailles.
Due to heavy storms, Régis's and Violette's house is flooded. They find refuge with Olga where they meet Leslie and Ousmane, two boisterous twins. Régis fights for the house repairs to start as soon as possible while Violette learns how to say "no" to her uncle.
