S2022: E4 The languages of Overseas France, a cultural and political battle
The language of the Republic is French, so stipulates article 2 of the Constitution. Yet, on a daily basis, the French speak, read and write many others. In Overseas France, specialists have listed up to fifty-four local languages, some frequently used by the French, others endangered because rarely practiced.
