A trip to the Magdalen Islands for nine weeks of lobster fishing, an activity of unbelievable intensity. It's a mad race, a race against time that an entire village depends on.
A trip to the Magdalen Islands for nine weeks of lobster fishing, an activity of unbelievable intensity. It's a mad race, a race against time that an entire village depends on.
The mad race begins. Today Dominic, Olivier, Julien and the 321 other lobster fishermen throw their lobster pots into the water for the first time. The new season is launched and the stakes are high. Last year, the fishermen shared 68 million dollars. This year, they're hoping for even better.
Have our fishermen chosen the best spots to set their traps, or will they need to rethink their strategy? Lobster fishing is a mad race against time where every decision counts, directly affecting the fishermen's income and their pride! And today mechanical problems are also lying in wait.
As Maxime suffers mechanical problems and has to return to harbour, Agathe is busy with the tourist side of the business. Vicky is one of the very few women on the archipelago to own a fishing boat. Meanwhile, Dominic prepares to confront the season's most violent storm.
The storm rages: Dominic regrets having gone out to sea, a day of broken traps, worries and water. Maxime and Agathe head to the town hall to present their tourism project. Olivier shares his love of fishing with the love of his life. Julien is going through difficult times.
A new storm disrupts everyone's plans. Fishing is always a dangerous profession and that's even truer today. Fortunately, after the rain it's clear skies, sunshine and more lobsters in the traps. Saturday evening: lobster supper at Maxime's and violin for Olivier.
For the first time since they've been together as a couple, Agathe has come lobster fishing with Maxime. An experience that will stand her in good stead in her tourism business. Meanwhile, Olivier is manoeuvring the boat; an emotional and exciting day for the future captain!
Despite their fatigue everyone is determined to make the most of the season, right to the last minute, except for Olivier, who ends his two days early. For him, it's already time to recover the traps and head back home. Step by step, Agathe continues towards launching her tourism business.
It's time to take stock as everyone gathers up their equipment and begins planning for next year. In the Magdalen Islands, summer's finally arrived, along with the tourists. The fishermen return home for a well-earned rest. Dominic camps in the dunes, Julien, Mireille and Maxime set sail aboard a yacht.
