Nik Hartmann, son guide Raphaël Imsand et l'équipe de tournage sont dans la vallée de Conches, qui se situe dans le Haut-Valais. Il neige constamment. Face aux risques d'avalanches, les routes sont coupées. Tous en profitent pour participer à la sécurisation d'un village.

Depuis toujours, Nik Hartmann est fasciné par les cols alpins. Il quitte Airolo, dans le canton du Tessin, pour atteindre sa première étape, la cabane de Lidernen. Pour y parvenir, il doit passer le col du Gothard mais la montagne en a décidé autrement.

Nik Hartmann souhaite rejoindre la vallée de la Muota, dans le canton de Schwytz, mais une avalanche de niveau 5 l'empêche d'aller plus haut. En compagnie du guide Pius Fähndrich, il prend conscience des dangers de l'hiver en montagne et change encore ses plans.
