An unmissable tradition: each first Saturday in December, the people of Fribourg gather in the centre of the old town to celebrate Saint Nicholas Day. During the night of 11 to 12 December 1602, the troops of Charles Emmanuel 1, Duke of Savoie, failed in their attempt to take Geneva by climbing the city's walls. Europe's greatest historical parade has just concluded the annual Escalade festival, each year the event celebrates the Genevans' victory.
