After "Carmen" it is one of the most frequently-performed French operas in the world. "The Tales of Hoffmann", Jacques Offenbach's ultimate work, to a libretto by Jules Barbier, was created posthumously in February 1881. Robert Carsen was responsible for staging it in 2000.
